I must admit that I like to recieve comments, so when you reply via an email it's a bit.... disappointing! Weird but true. I will stick me comments.

i dont' understand what Disqus does. Neither you nor their site actually tells me. i decided to try it anyway, but seem to have forgotten how to install plugins. it's in my CPanel, but not showing up in plugins in my admin panel.

Anyhoo - what does it do? I'm not interested in something that sends a canned response when someone comments - you know , an email that says "Thank you for your comment on my blog." I've never understood why bloggers do that. If they dont't want to engage in a conversation, why follow up at all? Rather insulting, in my view. if that's what Disqus is for I won't follow up and try to get it to install. I use comment email responder - all of my commentors get an emailed copy of the reply I give them on my blog. Do I need something more? Why is that not enough?

I know I was pretty vague in my post but I don't think I use Disqus to it's full potential *blush*
I did a search and came across this post,
    http://www.avc.com/a_vc/2008/05/three-reasons-t...
which explains a bit about how the threaded comments work.

I don't understand that "thanks for commenting" auto response thing either. I like your method, emailing your commenter what you replied on your blog.

I like trying new things and this seems to work for me in that I can respond via email and my response gets added to the comment section of my blog without me having to log into my blog. But if your way is working for you, stick with it :)

    Thanks for commenting!

I might take a look at it, Tina.

But what do you do with weirdo's like me who don't have a Disqus account? Or don't we need one?

(total disqus noob here ;) )

Jane, I hope that you weirdos (LOL) will register and that way, I don't have to worry about you! :P
That or I hope you just come back and read the comments section of the post that you commented on?

I'm a geek. I experiment with lots of different systems. For me, it is more complicated, since my blog is in Drupal, instead of Wordpress or Blogger.

However, Disqus has worked great for me. I've even added the ability to leave video comments in Disqus via Seesmic. I haven't had any video comments left, other than my test video comment.

I also have tried sezWho which was recommended by EntreCard. I still have it up, but it doesn't work well with Drupal.

Also, most recently, I found another great site that I recommend.

Check out http://www.cocomment.com It keeps track of your comments for you, on all kinds of different systems.

I couldn't get SezWho to work on my blog (?) Thanks for mentioning the other
    ones too :)
